Bicycle Tools

Bicycle Tools – How to Choose One

The 6 Essential Tools For Your Bike Repair Kit

Executive Summary about Bicycle tools by Freddy R. Johnson

What does it take exactly to repair a flat bicycle tire? When fixing a flat tire, it seems that many people believe in purchasing an aerosol can that can inflate your tire in seconds. This repairkit  or bicycle tools is specialized for repairing your flat or punctured tires. The cost of repairing with this bicycle tools is definitely much cheaper than buying an aerosol can that might not work.

Get at least 2 tubes

Are these tubes the same type? There are two types of tire valves in the market currently used on all bikes. These are called the 'presta' and 'shrader' valves. The 'presta' or French valve is much smaller and thinner. Meanwhile, the 'shrader' valve looks like a car tire valve, which is bigger.
With two different valves, you should always prepare for two different tubes for these two valves.

Levers for your tires

This is like the beer bottle opener for your bike. The only difference is that it is used for detaching your tires from the wheel. But sometimes, tire levers are known to break.
When your go shopping for one (tire lever), you will find them to be sold in sets. It is recommended that you purchase them in threes.

Bicycle pump

This is not an ordinary pump. You should get a bike pump that can be attached to your bike. It is the frame pump, as many others may call it. Being very light, it is a life saver for you on the road.
But keep in mind that it takes much more effort to pump a flat tire with one of these frame pumps. Still, it is a miniature and portable pump.

Bicycle patch repair kit

Patching serves as a backup in case your tire goes flat again later on. Only then you can unleash the new tube for replacement.

'Presta' valve adapter

It weighs even less than the frame pump. It can be handy to repair your friend's flat tire which used different valves.

Carbon dioxide cartridge inflator

Sometimes, you just do not have the time to fix a flat tire yourself like a mechanic somewhere along the highway.

Important Bicycle Maintenance Tools

Important Bicycle Tools

Cleaning Liquid

Get yourself some cleaning liquid and soft cloths. You can buy cleaning products specifically for bikes or as I often use, just general purpose cleaning liquid, like washing up liquid. It's still fine for de-greasing and washing off all the crud and grime. Make sure you check the liquid is safe to use on rubber, alloy and plastic though as you obviously want to avoid damaging the bike.

Screwdrivers

You probably have a set of screwdrivers anyway but check you have a selection of both flat head and crosshead (also known as Phillips) screwdrivers.

Pliers

Have a short and long pliers.

Wire Cutters

You'll also need a wire cutter for various jobs. Many pliers also have a wire cutter element to them, so if your pliers do then you will not need a separate set of wire cutters.

Small Hammer

You'll need a small hammer for various jobs where you need to hit something into its correct place.

Plastic Tire Levers

I used to use a flat head screwdriver to peel off bike tires but not anymore. The risk of damaging the inner tube is too great. Buy some plastic tire levers for this job. They make the job of taking the tire off a breeze and greatly reduce the risk of damaging the tube and rim.

Torch

Certain jobs such as calibrating the disc brakes need the help of a torch. You will be very happy you bought a headband type torch if your bicycle breaks down in the dark.

Set of Wrenches

Buy a full selection of wrenches as you'll need them for a wide range of jobs. You can also buy an adjustable wrench but I've only had partial success using these.
Brush and Toothbrush

A brush is essential for cleaning various parts of the bicycle such as the chain and a toothbrush is perfect for those hard to reach places such as gears. Always lubricate the chain after cleaning it with proper bike chain lubricant from a bicycle store and not some household lubricant such as WD40.

The Best Folding Bike

The Best Folding Bike – Buyer Guide

By Abu Fakhri

The Best Folding Bike - Here Are the Basics

Executive Summary about Best Folding Bike by Jared Hucks

The best folding bike is a bicycle that has a compact shape and is portable. When folded, these bikes can easily be kept in small spaces inside your house. They can be easily carried into buildings, workplaces and restaurants. Folding mechanisms vary for the wide variety of different models of  folding bikes and each provides a unique combination of compactness, weight, durability, price and speed. With these bikes, emphasis is largely on comfort, convenience and speed. Some of the better models fold at the frame midpoint. Folding bikes may weigh more than others do and they have additional mass in their frames. This extra mass actually aids the folding process.

There are a variety of different models of bikes available. There are different basic folding styles. This mechanism allows a bike to fold in approximately half. The second folding style includes the use of a triangle hinge in the frame that allows the rear triangle and wheel to be folded and flipped forward under the main frame tube. These mechanisms usually include latches and quick releases, which help to save time while closing up or releasing bikes. This allows bikes to fold or be partly disassembled for packaging into suitcases or cartons for air travel.

The best folding bike can be recognized through its features such as easy portability, increased folding speed, compact size and of course, the cost of purchase and maintenance.
The best folding bike models include the Schwinn and Strida, which closely resemble each other in terms of their features as well as their easy maintenance.

What Is The Best Folding Bike?

Executive Summary about Best Folding Bike by Corey Amick

Folding bikes are getting quite popular these days because of their convenience and the increasing number of great models to choose from. So which is the best folding bike out there? For those who value compact size above everything else, there is Areaware's STRiDA LT folding bike. At only 22 pounds and measuring 20 x 45 x 9 inches when folded, you can take this bike just about anywhere. The triangular frame is made up of powder-coated rustproof aluminum backed by a lifetime guarantee, while the drive train is a Kevlar greaseless belt drive that is sure to leave your pants clean. It has 16-inch wheels with cable disc brakes, and even a luggage rack that can hold as much as 13 pounds. This bike is best for those between 5'4" to 6'4" and weighing less than 220 pounds. The one downside to the STRiDA is that it has single speed gears.

For speed demons, there's Dahon's Speed TR. Unlike the super compact STRiDA, this one has a conventional folded-in-half design, and features bigger 20-inch wheels. The 24-speed gears will keep your adrenalin pumping while the chromoly frame is sure to keep your ride smooth and steady. The Speed TR measures 14 x 26.5 x 33 inches when folded.

While fancy features might be handy, some people just want a bike that works. It's a single speed bike with hand brake and coaster brake system on its 20-inch wheels.
