Some of the Mountain Bike Parts

Executive Summary about Mountain Bike Parts by Peter Gitundu

 Most of us like going for a ride on our bikes be it mountain biking, dust trails or any other off road terrain. I am sure we definitely enjoy the thrill and the adventure, but have you ever thought on the parts used to make your mountain bike? Some of the mountain bike parts are as listed below;

Bottom bracket, which is an adjustable attachment of the crank set to body of the bike. Crank lever which extends from the bottom bracket to the pedals and it's main function is transferring power to the chain rings, which are toothed rings which hold the chain. Chain circular, are set of links that transfer power from the chain ring to moving parts of the wheel.

Mountain bike parts also include; a brake cable and a lever whose functions are attaching the lever to the mechanism and activating the brakes respectively, Derailleur Mechanism which moves the chain from one part to another, front Shock absorbers, headset mechanism which connects front fork to the stem or the handlebars and spokes which are attached to the Hub Center section of the wheel.

Rims and tires are also important mountain bike parts and actually they make up the wheel. It would actually be impossible riding for long while standing and thus a seat is very essential. Top tubes and steering tubes are also important parts that make up our bikes.

Mountain Bike Parts - Gears and Derailleurs

Executive Summary about Mountain Bike Parts by Anne Clarke

Mountain bike parts serve to enhance the off-road cycling experience. Among the most basic are the gears.

The gears allow a bicyclist to keep a comfortable or maintainable pace no matter what the slope or speed. As time goes on, these off-road bikes continue to gain more and more gears. The typical layout is to have three of these located in front and nine located in back.

The rear derailleur has two jobs to accomplish. If the chain is on the largest front and back sprockets of the bicycle, the chain will naturally be more taught. If the chain is on the smallest sprockets of each, the rear derailleur has extra slack to manage.

The second task which the rear derailleur is faced with is that of switching gears. It does this by moving the bottom of the chain from side to side. It deals with the bottom rather than the top because that portion of the chain is under less tension. The force of the legs pedaling forward is what keeps the top under significant tension.

The front derailleur moves the chain between the front sprockets. It works with the top portion of the chain. As mentioned previously, this is under tension due to forward motion. In order to switch the front sprocket being used, it is necessary to ease off on the pedaling.

Sprockets are designed to hold and move the chain along smoothly. These mountain bike parts have developed to do more than that of course. Shorter and wider teeth as well as ramps and pegs are some of the elements used in sprocket technology to ease gear transitioning.
