A Motorcycle Gel Seat Can Save You

Executive Summary About Gel Saddle Cover by Simon Harris

Anybody who's become addicted to the ride that motorcycles give us knows that long trips can be a real pain in the rear. The seat needs to not only support you, hold you in place, and cushion you against the vibration of the motor, but it should also absorb the shock of you moving up and down as you pass over rough terrain. A motorcycle gel seat is the cure for this problem.

Gel has long been used in shoe insoles as a way to capture and distribute the shock across the entire shoe so walking around all day doesn't feel like work. This abuse your feet take is actually pretty similar to the abuse your butt takes in the seat over long distances. The vibration alone from the motor can cause problems if there is no shock protection. Gel in the seats will actually make your ride incredibly comfortable, like sitting on a cloud, and the abuse to your body will show as well if you're not using a seat like this.

Pads do ok, and there are cushion materials that are supposed to absorb the shock, but the bottom line is, gel is the most efficient way to distribute the energy generated by the abuse. Some materials absorb the shock but very poorly distribute it. Riding on a bike without a motorcycle gel seat to many is like riding a horse bare back (without a saddle). You definitely feel the difference when you sit down, and the beauty of gel is it doesn't compress over time, meaning it lasts longer, and is effective much longer than foam or other similar shock absorbing seat materials.
